How to Fix the Dysfunction of the Dopamine Chemistry in BPD Sufferers
How to Fix the Dysfunction of the Dopamine Chemistry in BPD SufferersPeople with borderline personality disorder also have a very fragile dopamine chemistry. Their dopamine levels are low and their brain's receptors for the neurotransmitter become dysfunctional. This is the reason why there are long periods when they can get depressed, irritable and even destructive.Since there are usually big chunks of time when the person feels this way, a lot of them end up sleeping a lot because they fear that they will start to feel like a basket case again. That is one way of escaping from their suffering, because it relieves them of the burden of having to deal with feelings of depression and of having to get out of bed and go about the day without feeling well.Food is another major concern for someone with this disorder. They can be totally obsessed with eating healthy and eating lots of fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, the amount of nutrients in these foods that are supposed to stimulat e the brain is not enough to keep them alive. That is the main reason why they end up being overweight and fat.The constant urge to eat is just another reason why their dopamine chemistry is so low. That's why it is not good to have them eat more than what is normal for them, and because they are very attached to food, it will cause them to feel hungry more often than they really should.Since BPD sufferers are extremely sensitive to small amounts of carbohydrates and sugars, have them eat foods that contain them makes them feel horrible. They don't know what to do and when they try to move away from them, they feel intense hunger and end up eating anything they can get their hands on.Alcohol and drugs are another dangerous relationship. They cause people to feel out of control and even stupid and reckless. Their brains react to the dopamine chemistry that is not functioning right and they end up doing things that they shouldn't.Drug and alcohol abusers are even more likely to have B PD than the average person is. They are more likely to be more irritable, angry and depressed, which are all signs of having a low dopamine chemistry. It is vital that people with BPD and depression look at the ways that they can have a healthier dopamine chemistry. I have several methods that I have found that work well for me.
